Supporting connection, expression and wellbeing through art
Welcome
Art and Wellbeing Brisbane offers group art therapy in aged care, caring-for-carers groups, and individual in-home sessions for adults.
Why Art Therapy?
Self-expression is essential for emotional wellbeing. But for many reasons, some people may find it difficult to express themselves with words—or may not use words at all.
Art therapy offers hands-on, sensory-rich experiences that gently invite engagement. For some, this happens alongside spoken reflection; for others, it becomes a meaningful alternative to words.

With the support of a qualified art therapist, each person is offered flexibility and an individualised approach. Sessions unfold in a way that feels right for them, allowing time to connect with the materials, the therapist, or the group—at their own pace.

Grounded in a strength-based, person-centred approach, this practice focuses on each individual’s abilities, interests, goals, and story. Rather than focusing on limitations, the emphasis is on what’s possible—working collaboratively to support wellbeing and self-expression in a way that feels meaningful and achievable.
Art therapy engages the senses—sight, touch, movement, smell, and sound—helping to anchor people in the present moment. This sensory experience supports mindfulness and relaxation, promoting a healing effect on the nervous system.
By reducing the reliance on words, it can make it easier for some to connect with the therapist and share their experiences without the pressure of direct attention.

At the same time, art encourages reflection, supports self-awareness, and explores personal meaning and symbolism. It also fosters creative skills—like problem-solving, flexible thinking, objective observation, and technical art processes—that can be applied in everyday life.

Person-Centered Counselling
A supportive approach for people of all ages to talk, reflect, and process challenges in a non-judgmental environment. With empathy and understanding, the therapist supports individuals as they explore what matters to them. This approach underpins all therapies offered at Art and Wellbeing Brisbane.
